Both can be engineered to a rating, and neither is automatically better. The difference is in what carries the load: exposed-fastener panel relies on the pattern and quality of screws through the face, while standing seam relies on clip spacing and seam engagement. Each has a manufacturer-specified schedule, and each fails when that schedule is not followed.
